From braids and curls to weaves, wigs and afro’s Black women’s hair has been a social and political minefield throughout history. The song - Sway The World - ties the knots between Black Hair and history and speaks to the heart and soul of the historic mystique, mystery and power associated with Black women’s hair. Sway The World is partly inspired by the July 2019 passing of the CROWN ACT in New York and California banning racial discrimination on the basis of hair texture.
Un Canadien errant is a French Canadian song, written by Antoine Gérin-Lajoie after the Lower Canada Rebellion of 1837-38. It tells the story of the pain and sorrow of being exiled from one’s homeland. It also holds particular significance with the Acadians, as its modified version, ‘Un Acadien errant’, speaks to the legacy left by the Great Upheaval of 1755. Rather than attempting to reimagine the melody or add more to it, this arrangement peels away the layers to reveal the exquisite beauty of the simple melody.
